KM Malta Airlines Limited, the national airline of the Maltese Islands, is seeking to recruit a Head of Financial Strategy and Control within the Finance department.
Purpose of Position
The Head of Financial Strategy and Control at KM Malta Airlines shall be responsible for overseeing the long-term financial control of the Company as well as the formation and implementation of the Company’s financial strategy, particularly focusing on aircraft leasing, financing and encumbrance, lease vs buy decisions, investment in non-current assets and project management.
Responsibilities
- Lead cost control assignments which will involve deep analysis of operating and commercial areas of the Company with the ultimate intent of understanding, mapping and re-engineering processes for optimum cost efficiency.
- Accountable for developing longer-term plans, investments and commitments of the Company in line with KM Malta Airlines’ strategic objectives and corporate plan.
- Lead comprehensive financial strategy setting and the evaluation of long-term investments.
- Oversee the design and effective implementation of internal controls in Finance.
- Carry out a detailed and thorough evaluation of areas which can drive cost containment and control.
- Oversee all aspects of KM Malta Airlines’ financial strategy, as directed by the Chief Finance Officer.
- Cultivating and managing healthy commercial relationships and negotiating terms with aircraft lessors.
- Design comprehensive sensitivity and what-if models for the Company’s long-term strategic decisions, flexed on a number of input variables feeding into the Chief Finance Officer’s decision-making process as required.
- Assess the feasibility of ad hoc projects and benchmark their performance against targets.
- Model complex lease vs. buy decisions as well as the encumbrance of aircraft and different levels of leverage in the Company.
- Be involved in the investment in the Company’s long-lasting tangible and intangible assets and manage ongoing projects to fruition.
- Develop a reporting package for the Chief Finance Officer on the Company’s long-term projects via suitable metrics and analysis.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent working knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with a broad knowledge of general ledger and related financial system functionality.
- Knowledge of local Tax regulation and relevant local laws and practices may be required depending upon the specific allocated responsibilities.
- Ideally possess a keen understanding of the airline industry.
- Deep understanding of Internal Control.
- Understanding of the management of corporate debt and investments.
- Minimum 5 years’ previous experience in a finance-related role with a track record of increased responsibilities (essential).
- 3 years’ experience in a similar senior managerial post (desirable).
- Experience in the Commercial Aviation industry is advantageous (desirable).
- Experience operating within Maltese Aviation regulatory frameworks (desirable).
- Experience in Internal Audit and / or Project Management would be considered an asset (desirable).
- Applicants must possess a recognised degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or a comparable professional qualification recognised by the MQRIC (essential).
- Applicant is ideally a fully qualified Accountant (essential).
- Post Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline (desirable).
